When You Arrive for your First Visit...

When you arrive for your first visit, you will meet the Doctor and staff and be given a tour of the office while we provide you with some education regarding chiropractic care and how it can help you.

We will request that you thoroughly complete our patient forms. If you wish, you are welcome to download these forms and work through them at your own leisure (see right). Simply bring them with you on your first visit or email them to us before you arrive.

Your first visit will consist of:

  • A consultation where you and the Doctor will discuss your health-related problems, concerns and potential treatment options.
  • A complete chiropractic examination that includes X-rays of your spine, an analysis of your posture and range of motion, and a digital spine thermography test.
  • Education about chiropractic care and how it can help you achieve your wellness goals.
  • You may also receive your first chiropractic adjustment. The doctor will use a common examination technique called “Palpation” to feel for any nerve interference and explain the process of a chiropractic adjustment.

With your return visit you will receive your reports of the Doctor's findings. You will be told if there is any nerve interference and its severity, and you will get to see your x-rays.

The doctor will discuss the findings and outline a course of care needed to correct the nerve interference. This course could include spinal adjustments, beneficial exercises and changes to your lifestyle to help you reach your full health potential.

Frequent adjustments may be required at the beginning of your treatment, but as you continue care and your condition improves, the number of visits and adjustments will decrease.

If you wish, you can also work with our staff who will help you craft a wellness plan in addition to your chiropractic care. This would include tailoring a nutritional plan to your particular health needs with dietary and supplement recommendations as well as building healthy habits and routines to help you toward your total wellness.

What to Expect from your Chiropractic Care

After your testing and initial visits are through, chiropractic care will occur in three phases.

Phase 1: Corrective Care

Most people come to a chiropractor because they are in pain. This first phase is geared toward reducing your symptoms by reducing stress damage to the spine and nervous system. Each chiropractic adjustment clears the way for your body to start healing itself, but the healing of a condition that has evolved over months, or even years, will take some time to heal.

At first, it will take continued adjustments to be certain that the vertebrae have returned to their proper position and your muscles and ligaments can continue to hold them firmly in place.

During this phase, you may have therapeutic exercises assigned that will help strengthen and correct your unique problem. These are exercises that you can do in the comfort of your own home. You may also be asked to use certain equipment that, along with therapeutic exercises, increase the effectiveness of your adjustments.

Phase 2: Wellness Care

Once your spinal integrity starts to stabilize, your doctor will perform periodic spinal checks to make sure your spine remains free of nerve interference.

During this phase, you will not receive adjustments as often as the spine strengthens and your symptoms may be greatly reduced or even non-existent. To prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is vital that you continue care through this phase.

Remember, complete healing cannot take place unless the spine is checked regularly to be sure that there isn't a recurrence of nerve interference. Depending on the severity of your condition, this phase can last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.

It is possible and normal to have occasional flare-ups of symptoms during this phase. Don't be discouraged. Keep doing your exercises. Your body is just reminding you that you are not healed yet.

Phase 3: Maintenance Care

Just as in weight-loss, where you continue your exercise program and healthy eating to keep the weight off, continued chiropractic care after your body has healed helps to keep your body in optimal condition.

Injuries and general day-to-day activity can cause your spine to go out of alignment. Routine adjustments are essential to making sure you can engage in more of the activities you love.
